In the spirit of Fat Tuesday, here’s some funked-up hometown flavor from The Meters for all those revelers down in New Orleans – and for all those who wish they were there.

Check out The Meters in 1974 – Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr., Ziggy Modeliste and Cyril Neville – performing funk classics, “Look-Ka Py Py” and “Jungle Man.” There’s a reason these guys became the house band for the legendary New Orleans musician and producer, Allen Toussaint.

Fast forward more than three decades. Here’s The Original Meters performing with The Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2006. Watch the bands stretch it out at the Voodoo Fest, serving up some heavy New Orleans heat. (Get out there and catch the RHCP tour. Tickets are going fast.)
