Which version you like better may depend upon what generation you were born in. Both the Bryan Adams original and the re-make from Bowling For Soup are terrific summer songs. The former is a broadly arranged and executed Anthem Rock piece; the latter is punkier, a little nastier.

Both are a lot of fun. Both are supreme car songs, as good for cruising as any by The Beach Boys, The Ramones, or even Jackson Browne’s do of “Take It Easy.”

“Summer Of ’69″ smoothly combines nostalgia, teenage angst, lust and carelessness. Love found, love lost, mining the past for some meaning that seems always to elude, yet appreciating the feeling of soaring over the world if just for a brief few months.

Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever

Those were the best days of my life
