Do It Again (1969)

Stand it up against all the summer songs you can imagine. It’s a beach party in a bottle. Pour it out, guzzle it down and revel in its tight, sharp 2-1/2 minutes.

Hand-clapping, soulful bass line, a superior lead guitar (an aspect of The Beach Boys tunes that was often sorely missing). As a listener can always expect, the vocals are flawless. Some nice slap-back echo makes “Do It Again” sound like it’s being played through an old car radio regardless of how faithful your modern audio reproduction system is.

In the end, the lyrics make the point. Pictures of a thousand summer days brought to life.

It’s automatic when I
Talk with old friends
The conversation turns to
Girls we knew when their
Hair was soft and long and the
Beach was the place to go

Suntanned bodies and
Waves of sunshine the
California girls and a
Beautiful coastline
Warmed up weather
Let’s get together and
Do it again
